Battlefield 3 was my own most awaited first person shooter (FPS) game of the entire year. The previews looked spectacular, but there was clearly some concern that what was in the previews had been the PC edition and would certainly be watered down to play on your consoles. Fortunately console owners will not be let down. When you purchase Battlefield 3, you will get two cds – one for your multiplayer variation, and another for the single participant.
Xbox
The Xbox360 provides a ‘lite’ install along with a full install besides discs. It’s highly recommended that you clear your disc for the full setup, as the graphics come very close to the Computer version. The minimal install results in blocky textures that basically belong to past versions of Battlefield. It says some thing about the visuals in this video game that they needed to pile every thing onto a pair of DVDs and still require additional downloads. In comparison to the Computer you do see a difference. However, you run BF3 on Xbox in full High definition mode, and you’re sucked in to the combat, and the difference is hardly noticeable. The Playstation 3 images seem to be somewhat sharper compared to Xbox360. However, the sound is actually amazing: the radio communication; the explosions, as well as the ariel combat activity increase the realism.
One Player Action
The single person game can be slightly discouraging. The game is finished too quickly, as well as the story line isn’t very original. You can experience some quick deaths which can be frustrating, and also you are not able to pilot all of the vehicles shown on the trailers. In fact the sole vehicle you are free to pilot will be the tank for a while. In addition there is also a co-operative variation of the game which develops the main campaign, but this can be over quickly too. Most game enthusiasts report that they are able to finish in one afternoon of play.
Multi-player Option
When it comes to multiplayer that’s what saves the overall game and causes it to be worthwhile to purchase battlefield 3. You can become a member of Twenty-four players (Two teams of twelve players on either side) which is fewer than in the computer version (where you can play Sixty-four players at any given time), but that is easy to understand considering the amount of PC players in the world. The battlefield maps themselves are totally massive, and you also have access to jet fighters, choppers, assault weapon boats, battle tanks and jeeps. The image detail is not just a nice visual touch, it truly adds to the realism of the game play. You can explode everything such as walls and obstacles, so there is absolutely no safe place to set up encampment. The developers at DICE have put a priority on working as a team in order to be effective in this video game, and interaction and working with each other is highly rewarded.
Bottom line
There are some problems on the Battlefield servers such as lag and difficulty accessing servers, but it’s still in the early launch stage, and they are quickly being resolved. If you are an avid FPS gamer and are considering your next step is to purchase Battlefield 3, your search is over for the best multiplayer First person shooter experience.
